London-based model Malaika Firth has been in Kenya recently, spending time with her family in Mombasa, where she was born and raised.
She told Style.com, for whom she produced a photo diary of her trip:
“I hadn’t been back to Kenya in almost three years, so I was super-excited to see how much my hometown had changed for the better, and my beautiful family, of course.”
See below the snaps she shared, which show her riding a turtle, volunteering with locals and posing for a few family-fused selfies;
“I helped my grandma with her restaurant, Porini, and spent time in the kitchen learning a few of her delicious ‘secret’ recipes. Here we are waiting for our food to come!”
“Me with Boko Boko, the restaurant’s resident Seychelles giant tortoise, who is over 200 years old!”
“The most adventurous way to get around Mombasa is with a tuk-tuk!”
“My cousin and me on Kenya Beach.”
“Big love to my Masai friend!”
“While I was home, I volunteered and helped feed around sixty children.”
“Sorting out pencils and pens to give to the kids in the area.”
“Packets of achari—dried, flavored mango—at the local market. Delicious!”
