Okay, so we’re supposed to be thinking all things ‘Man’ this month, but the new Moschino Barbie is calling the 7-year-old girl inside all of us at Team SPICE to make it our must-have this week.
That said, the new ad for Barbie’s latest incarnation does feature – for the first time ever – a boy (*inhales breath, sharply*), with Mattel being praised online for challenging gender norms in doll advertising.’
Although, it was actually the fashion label’s creative director, Jeremy Scott who directed the ad (or “fauxmercial” as he’s dubbed it), explaining;
“When I dreamt up the concept for the Moschino Barbie fauxmercial, I felt it was natural to have a little boy representing for all the little boys like myself who played with Barbies growing up.
Barbie was more than a toy, she was a muse for me.”
Sadly, the collector’s edition doll which wears clothes from Moschino is already sold out, though we are sure they’ll resurface online in time for Christmas at non-official outlets like Ebay.
To leave you keen to part with what we expect to be radical amounts of funds to win bids for it, see the Moschino Barbie ad here below and do let us know what you’d be prepared to spend on it in the comments box or by tagging us in your proposals online, using @SPICETVAFRICA.
