Music Meets Runway (MMR) has just announced the list of talented African designers who will take part in its 2014 event, including Nigerian designers Sunny Rose and Kola Kuddus.
Now in its 4th year and promising a night of high profile acts alongside exquisite fashion, MMR will hold on the 23rd of December at Eko Hotel & Suites, showcasing collections by Kiko Romeo of Kenya, Mademoiselle Aglaia, Kola Kuddus Couture and Sunny Rose of Nigeria, Osei Duro of Ghana and Neville Masondo of South Africa.
Kiko Romeo was founded in 1996 by Ann McCreath, who is known for her passionate work in ethical fashion; Neville Siphiwe Masondo founded his brand La Art Neviole Emporium in 2012, crafting couture for men and women; Mariam Afolabi is an award-winning designer who debuted her label, Mademoiselle Aglaia in 2009; Maureen Ikem Okogwu-Ikokwu founded Sunny Rose – named after her parents – and draws inspiration from her travels around the globe; menswear label Kola Kuddus Couture is known for its ‘urban African’ designs, which blend African authenticity and Western creativity; and Osei-Duro’s two daughters, Molly Keogh and Maryanne Mathias, founded the label after a research trip to Ghana, with a clientele that includes Michelle Obama.
With a theme titled “The African Edition,” the team at MMR have revealed that they;
“…Selected this year’s participants strictly through brand aesthetic, innovation and overall impact on the creative industries throughout the continent at large.”
The platform’s founder, Jennifer Olize added;
“The vision of MMR Africa is to show the world these amazing talents, cultural diversity and innovative potential of the creative artisans who have attained international standards right here in Africa.“
Music Meets Runway have also just revealed a second official campaign shot for their event (see the first here), which features their official face, Joanne ‘Nikki’ Anyasi, who was selected after a rigorous model search by the team across Nigeria throughout the Summer. And, with the cool new imagery and brilliant list of official showcasing designers, we at SPICE are looking forward to the 2014 “African Edition” of MMR.
