Nigeria’s Simi Adeagbo is Africa’s 1st Female Skeleton Athlete At Winter Olympics

For the first time ever we have women from Africa representing in the Winter Olympic Games tagged PyeongChang2018, the women’s Bobsled and the women’s Skeleton event. Simidele Adeagbo has qualified for the women’s skeleton event, having finished 3rd in her fifth and final qualifying race held on January 11, in Lake Placid, New York.

Simi is a former Triple Jumper and record holder for the University of Kentucky, after she qualified for PyeongChang2018, she went ahead t share the news via her social media handle on Instagram “Hello Pyeongchang! I successfully completed my 5th qualifying race with a 3rd place finish! I’m looking forward to representing @bsfnigeria & becoming the first female African Skeleton athlete to compete in the Winter Olympics. Dreams do come true!”

As much as we are super excited for Simi, we can only wish her and the trio bobsled team (Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga), who also made history by becoming the first athletes from Africa to qualify for the Winter Olympics which would be holding from February 9 to 23 in South Korea.
