Balmain director and, let’s face it, babe (see here and you’ll understand why) Olivier Rousteing has been talking on his style, revealing to Vogue Magazine that his taste, like our own, has evolved over time, explaining;
“I was always into different ethnicities; I would wear these big pearls or stones, I went through so many things, but I would always wear my tailored jacket.
Even when I was wearing hip-hop pants when I was 15, I still kept my tailored jacket to keep the balance of my style.”
“I try new things but one thing I would never wear is a long coat, because I’m too short.”
The designer, who counts Kanye West and Kim Kardashian as friends (as well as campaign stars – see them front Balmain’s current menswear ad, here), and who has successfully steered the Balmain brand into a new era with the use of social media, also told Vogue of his pride and vanity, commenting;
“I don’t need to be famous to be vain about a selfie. I could have 10 followers and I would still feel that way! I can take 20 pictures until I find one I like.
Being the most followed French designer on Instagram makes me really proud. I feel very French in a way – people sometimes forget that, I think, and seem to feel that I’m so much more American, which sometimes is kind of sad that they think so – and in fashion I am part of that system. I’m very proud to represent my country in that way.”
Mr Rousteing will be speaking on social media at Vogue’s Festival on April 25th (read more on that, here) and we at SPICE suggest followers of his fashion or his Instagram page find a way to make it.
