“Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves”That is a great quote from Abraham Lincon and one might wonder what freedom really is in clothes. Adebayo Oke Lawal, shares a story of his childhood, how he would sit by the window and watch the rain drop from the sky, he was thought that as a man you do not cry because crying shows weakness and for this, they took away his freedom of expression.
He was made to think that by not expressing his emotions, he was stronger, he could finally fit into the crowd because his freedom of expression was cut from him. He finally learnt that in showing emotions, it did not mean he was weak, in showing weakness, you actually become stronger, hence, he let his rain drop by crying and this is the entire inspiration behind this collection.
The entire collection reminds me of Orange Culture’s transition from very soft silhouettes to more structured and flow fabrics, I learnt this from the “Trust” collection, and it all makes sense now. He finally trusted himself to be liberated, thus it had to be portrayed in his pieces, I mean this pieces had to stand for something, they had to depict what the designer envisioned, these pieces had to show that it embodied the designers soul because only then would we actually understand the true meaning of ‘Rain Drops”.
Every piece in this collection appeals to different personalities and this was Adebayo’s way of extending his arm of freedom to you. See full look book below
