While we at SPICE are thinking all things ‘Warrior’ this month, top makeup artist Pat McGrath – the talent who’s typically responsible for all the amazing beauty looks seen on Fashion Week runways – has revealed a new side project: putting fashion-inspired warpaint to the face of Barbie.
The creative, who worked along with the Barbs’ official style feed @Barbiewears, chose four iconic makeup looks from key moments in her portfolio, then redid them on four plastic faces, giving our beloved Barbie the true backstage treatment – and a way more up-to-date beauty look.
Ms McGrath created a dark cat-eyed look with glitter and Swarovski crystals a la her recent face jewel looks seen at Givenchy; a buzz cut, dramatic pink contouring and some geometric primary coloured touches to recall a look she painted on Jessica Stam in 2004; bold brows and jewelled lips were given to Barbie to recreate the punk-inspired look she did at the 2013 Met Gala; and lastly, an intensely teal eyeshadow look reminiscent of models at last Fall’s Versace show.
Posting a look to her Instagram account, Pat said of the resulting new Barbie;
“How major is that?”
Team SPICE are pretty much obsessed with the new Barbie look, but especially the mini Jourdan Dunn version with the heavy teal shadow.
