The annual Pirelli Calendar – an annual limited edition “art item” created by the Italian tire company of the same name – usually remains swathed with an air of mystery, with the models and the theme under wraps until a choice moment nearer its shoot date. But, revealing the photographer that will next shoot its images, Pirelli have just announced that top photographer Peter Lindbergh has signed up to capture 2017’s.
The talent is revered for his black and white portraiture, and will make a fitting follow up to Annie Leibovitz who took on photographer duty for the last edition, which featured the likes of Serena Williams and Ava DuVernay. The theme for 2016 was “Women of Influence” and shot a lineup of strong, empowering women in a way that swerved left of the calendar’s previous hingings on female sexuality.

This will Lindbergh’s third time shooting the calendar, though his upcoming shots will be highly anticipated since his passion is picturing women in their “pure form” – the photographer once telling Interview Magazine;
“This should be the responsibility of photographers today to free women, and finally everyone, from the terror of youth and perfection.”
While we await news of the 2017 theme and the models he’ll work with, we at SPICE list our 7 favourite Peter Lindbergh collaborations so far – the beauties that have starred in his iconic shots, left us inspired for decades, and looking forward to the upcoming Pirelli Calendar shots.
1. Naomi Campbell
When iconic model Naomi Campbell meets iconic photographer Mr Lindbergh, of course great things happen.
Together, the duo have set the standard for what comes to mind when you think of Ms Campbell, from the laughter-filled 1998 nude of the towering stunner, to the fashion-filled Vogue shoot of June’90, styled by Grace Coddington.
–
2. Kate Moss
Another great muse for Lindbergh, Kate Moss and her cheekbones look amazing under his lens – this 1994 shot of the supermodel in dungarees, proving so.
But asides that iconic shot of the model, the two have worked on numerous editorials and campaigns together, including images for designer David Yurman and spreads for Italian Vogue.

3. Milla Jovovich
Clearly a lover of a great, unique beauty, Peter Lindbergh has captured many of the World’s top faces, including actress Milla Jovovich’s.
Whether for fragrance ads, fashion campaigns, or editorials for the likes of Vogue, the duo have synchronised for striking images that are simply unforgettable. To view them is to be haunted and eternally inspired.
–
4. Cindy Crawford
Cindy Crawford dominated the 90s with her bombshell body and brunette, bouncing hair, with many of her memorable shots taken by Mr Lindberg.
Just take a look at some of the photographer’s shots of the star to chart her beauty over that decade.

5. Christy Turlington
90’s icon Christy Turlington also took several whirls in front of Lindbergh’s lens, with a face that was made for every angle.
We’ve loved looking through the archives of their pairing, with our favourite shots from their collaboration here below.
–
6. Linda Evangelista
Ms Evangelista has an unforgettable face, and many of Peter Lindbergh’s shots have helped stay that sentiment.
From intimate portraits to flamboyantly styled shots for fashion magazines, the pair have proved what magic can happen between a photographer, his camera and his muse, and these are some of the most magnetic images they’ve ever created.
–
7. All the ’90s Supers
In one of the most significant shots of this gathering of models, Lindbergh is well known for having captured The Supers – Naomi, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford – in this 1989 snap, and isn’t it a beauty.
The quintet are seen clamoured together in smoky eyes and denim, and embodying every woman’s wish for themselves during that era. For Vogue’s “Wild Ones” shoot, the girls were clad in leather and studs, and we’re still not over the results.
