Cementing notions that Karl Lagerfeld is a bit of a busy boy, Pharrell Williams is spied in the designer’s new fashion film Reincarnation, alongside top model Cara Delevingne, for Chanel.
Due for full debut on December 1st – an appropriate gift for followers given the season and that Mr Lagerfeld is hosting Chanel’s Paris-Salzburg fashion show at the Schloss Leopoldskron on that date – the film recalls a key moment in Gabrielle Chanel’s life, which occurred during her stay at an Austrian resort in 1954.
Legend has it that Ms Chanel fell in love with the hotel’s elevator operator’s jacket, which is where the fashion houses signature Chanel jacket got its key features: the contrasting trim and pockets being its signature.
Pharrell Williams stars in the film as well as having composed an original short song, “CC the World,” which he sings with the film’s co-star, model Cara.
On the stylish singer/producer’s involvement, Lagerfeld commented;
“He was easy to work with, very pleasant. He’s very professional.”
Reports are that Lagerfeld’s film is full of wit and historical references, as well as references to the brand’s many signatures, with the infamous No. 5 appearing within the story, and the “CC” mention in the song nodding to Empress Elisabeth of Austria, who was popularly known as “Sisi.”
Lagerfeld has also revealed;
“There’s a touch of Pop Art in it. It’s not meant to be a historical reconstruction or something heavy like that. This is light and funny.
“It’s a modern way to communicate. I like to do very short movies. I have no time and no patience to do a feature film. After two days, I want to do something else.”
The film is made to accompany Chanel’s pre-fall’15 ready-to-wear collections, for which Williams and Delevingne will star in the ad campaigns, having our anticipation for those pics coming second only to what we feel while we wait for Reincarnation‘s full debut on December 1st.
