Red Carpet Roundup: 23rd Feb – 2nd March

Our Red Carpet Roundup this week takes us from Lagos to LA, what with events like the Italia Film, Fashion and Art Fest, and the Oscars occurring over the same seven days.

See our pick of the best of the perfectly-dressed, below;

Pharrell Williams, Helen Lasichanh
First up and at the Oscars, it’s Pharell Williams – hat-less and showing his shins. The musician made yet another style statement, dressing down his formal suit with a tailored pair of boy shorts, and while we’re sure there’s a few critics out there nay-saying something about this look, what’s not to love about a guy who’s game to push boundaries and go against the rules?

One of the prettiest pairs on most red carpets, singer John Legend and his model wife Chrissy Teigen just glowed at the 2014 Oscar Academy Awards – with him in a back and white tux, and her in a gorgeous, floral splattered gown. Good looking out guys.

Also at the Oscars, Viola Davis came decked out in a Escada dress, Jimmy Choo clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery – and we just love the colour, curves and flapper-esque curls on the actress. Top marks for a top talent who clearly knows her way around a wardrobe.

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals
Wearing a custom-made Prada dress in a shade of blue that reminds the star of Nairobi (because she “wanted to have a little bit of home” with her), Lupita Nyong’o looked amazing, as usual – this time at the Oscars. While “Nairobi Blue” might now be a ‘thing’, for us, it’s the headband that was the tip of the iceberg that is Lupita’s stone cold style, and we’ll be rushing out to find one, immediately.

Out and about in Lagos (more specifically, at House of Nwocha's fashion showcase on 23rd February) and looking like a million dollars in her bright striped jumpsuit, songtress Tonye Garrick made her outfit pop with her mega watt smile – a style tip we’d give to anyone looking to follow in her fashion footsteps.

Ene Maya Lawani
At the same event, Ms Ene Maya Lawani turned up fierce in a pair of ultra strappy heels, which meant we immediately added her to our best dressed list. The ’20s-style flapper hair, decals and drop-waist shift dress also caught our attention and as usual, she struck us as someone who knows what they’re doing when dressing. Well done Ene Maya.

A very blonde Munachi Abii popped on the runway with a printed wrap dress and t-bar heels. There’s something so very ‘70s about this look that we love – especially with that winged hair and so soon after we've watched American Hustle on the big screen. This was definitely one of our favourite versions of sexy on this week’s red carpet.

osas ighodaro
Osas Ighodaro stood out on the carpet for House of Nwocha’s event with her simple, chic look in the statement shade of red. Pairing her well-fitting jumpsuit with white strappy heels, a bold neckpiece and blue clutch, Osas proves her place on our best-dressed list, effortlessly.

Seen on the carpet for the 2014 Independent Spirit Awards, held on Saturday 1st March in LA, Chiwetel Ejiofor took a risk that paid off in a pale blue suit and grey shirt. Whether or not he knows grey is the colour for men this S/S, he’s so on trend he’s almost giving his 12 Years a Slave co-star Lupita a run for her money as style icon. More of this please, Mr Ejiofor.

And lastly, rocking a simple, chic and sexy look to the 9th Annual Italia Film, Fashion, and Art Fest Opening Night Ceremony in LA last week, Naomie Harris looked amazingly toned in a Cushnie et Ochs pre-fall 2014 cutout dress that we at SPICE need in our lives. Apparently, you can take the girl out of Bond but not the Bond out of the girl… #Glamazon
