The 87th annual Academy Awards aka The Oscars took place last night on February 22nd, at the Dolby theatre in Los Angeles – and, as expected, the most stylish and talented films stars were seen stepping out in their most glamorous garments to be lensed on the event’s red carpet.
From Lupita Nyong’o in Calvin Klein, to David Oyelowo in Dolce & Gabana and Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab, here’s our best dressed list from the event, below in our Style Special;
Starting with a true gentlemen, Oscar winner and rapper, Common opted for a white bow tie against a white shirt, which he paired with a swish Prada suit. We never knew a “l-l-l – a look like this”could be done so well….
…But hurtling into our hearts with a ridiculously stylish ensemble, British-Nigerian actor, David Oyelowo looked clean and classic in a Dolce & Gabanna three-piece suit, in the bestow burgundies. We at SPICE love a man who dares to dress differently and Mr Oyelowo, you did just that. Hot!
Actor colleague, Chiwetele Ejiofor looked clean as well in his Prada piece, keeping things uber classic and looking super smart.
Meanwhile, host for the evening, Neil Patrick Harris looked suave in a grey tuxedo and was joined by his husband David Burtka, who didn’t dress to match, wearing a white tuxedo. The guys still looked good together though, didn’t they?
Jared Leto brought his his famed long hair to the red carpet with a centre parting, paired with a cool lavender suit and whiter-than-white shoes. Keeping things traditional Hollywood with a white shirt and white bow-tie, we totally dig this bold and confident look.
Comedian Kevin Hart looked good too in his awkward pose, wearing Lanvin…
…And he who never puts a foot wrong with his wardrobe, singer John legend looked dapper as always in a well tailored suit from Gucci.
Unique rapper and producer, Will.I.Am was the definition of music meeting film in his hip-hop inspired look, made up of a collarless shirt, studded boots and stripes…
…And Bradley Cooper looked like a true Oscar nominee in his three-piece suit, rocked well with slicked-back hair.
Moving on to the ladies of the night, who equally took our breath away, 31-year-old Kenyan star, Lupita Nyong’o – who won the award for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ last year – slayed on the red carpet while looking like a princess in her Calvin Klein gown, Chopard jewelry and Nicholas Kirkwood shoes…
The beauty stunned in her figure hugging dress, which featured intricate white beading from top to bottom, a halter neckline and sexy keyhole cut-out that Calvin Klein Collection’s Francisco Costa custom-designed for her. Overall, the look was finished with 6,000 pearls leaving Lupita looking completely precious. Wow!
Another women destined to stun on the night was 28-year-old music and style star, Solange Knowles who was the special guest DJ at the official Governors Ball Oscars After Party. Bey’s little sis dazzled in a red Christian Siriano dress which included a high neck, and we we love how she rocked a matching pout and a tousled bob, too. Gorgeous!
Jennifer Lopez, who had the most anticipated arrival, was the epitome of elegance and sophistication as she stepped out for her eighth Oscars red carpet appearance, wearing a beautiful gown by Elie Saab with a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch, Neil Lane jewels and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes. Jenny makes 45 look great and we can’t say we were disappointed after the hype over her appearance.
Red carpet drama queen Lady Gaga, who also performed at the event, stepped out on the carpet wearing a crisp white, structured, bespoke Azzedine Alaia gown, which she paired with tomato red, elbow-length gloves. While the gloves did look a little like the type you’d wear washing up, the overall look was true to Ms Gaga’s style and we were just pleased she didn’t turn up in anything raw…
Keeping it simple but stunning, Fifty Shades of Grey’s lead actress, Dakota Johnson, who presented an award on the night, teamed a red Saint Laurent gown with a ponytail and red lips to match. We were impressed by the fit of the gown and the simple styling which left Ms Johnson looking pretty perfect.
Stepping out in one of the best looks we’ve ever seen her in, Kelly Osbourne kept it simple yet glamorous in a Rita Vineries black lace dress and strappy shoes. This look balanced Kelly’s signature Osbourne Gothic-ness with Hollywood glamour and we at SPICE were left impressed.
Meanwhile though, Zendaya Coleman debuted another new look to take our attention away, rocking faux locs on an off-shoulder Vivienne Westwood dress with a draped silhouette. This ensemble was ultra elegant but bounced brilliantly off the edge that was brought by Ms Coleman’s dreadlock-inspired ‘do. We salute her stylist.
How to Get Away With Murder actress, Viola Davis rocked a gorgeous, dusky rose gown with a full skirt by Zac Posen, which she completed with dark lips, Stuart Weitzmen shoes and Van Cleef & Arpels jewels. While this wasn’t the most vibrant look on Viola, we can’t say she didn’t look good.
Another best dressed nominee, actress Marion Cotillard stood out in her Dior look, which was all about the alternative, unusual back strap detail….
The actress’ gorgeous, white eyelet Christian Dior couture gown just radiated against her beauty and we love how she styled her hair for the utmost amount of simple-chic.
Fellow actress, Rosamund Pike looked amazing in Givenchy and a splash of simple Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Team SPICE say totally killed it, what with that wasp-waist and front split…
Also spied on the red carpet with a banging body was beautiful singer, Rita Ora who looked regal in a strapless Marchesa gown. We can’t get enough of the look and its weavings of gold embroidery, which the star style out with her fresh blonde hair, swept to the side.
And, showing off her hour-glass figure, new mum Zoe Saldana flaunted her post-baby body in a draped, custom Atelier Versace gown in muted pink. That wrap detail to the front? That drew in our eyes but what nailed it for us was the star’s romantic, waved hair. Gorgeous!
Carmen Ejogo was brought more glamour to the carpet in a dress from Houghton Bride’s Spring/Summer’15 collection. Though the look is quite glittery, with its sequinned, bedazzled texture, we like the fit of the dress and its trailing tail – just not sure it was Oscar worthy…
And, last but not the least, Octavia Spencer, who also opted for a touch of train to her gown, looked classy in a custom Tadashi Shoji dress paired with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a Judith Leiber clutch. Kept fresh with simple, sleek hair and a clutch in a matching hue, we think Ms Spencer rocked the red carpet and looked a million dollars.
