Fashion right from time immemorial has been about the history of people and their way of life. From corseted confinement, to cloth logo and false lashes, there is always a story behind it. Here are five facts about fashion you probably had no idea about.

 False Lashes: To get the perfect glam false lashes is a must have, but have you ever wondered how this product came about? The first false lash ever made was created for producer D.W. Griffith in 1916. Griffith was shooting a black and white movie at the time named “Intolerance”, he wanted the actress Seena Owen to have lashes that graced her cheeks and make her eyes shine larger than life, he contracted a local wig maker using human hair woven through fine gauze. False lashes at first were made of fringe, since then it has been made better and also more popular than it was in this present day.

Oldest garment: Did you know that second oldest garment in history is the skirt? Only lion skirts  predate it. Skirts are clothes associated with the female gender, but in the medieval days men and women wore skirts, if you look at ancient paintings, you see men an women both wearing a skirt.

No sexy models: There was no need for models in the 1500s, designers used little dolls to showcase their clothes or collection to customers and potential clients.  The advent of models started in 1853.

Buttons on Sleeves of jacket:Napoleon Bonaparte had no clue that he wasn’t just a french military and political leader who rose to prominence during the French Revolution and led several successful campaign but also a fashionista who invented the buttons on the sleeves of jackets. Napoleon got tired of his soldiers wiping their noses on their sleeves, thus he decided to put buttons on their jackets. According to Ainissa Ramirez, a materials scientist at Yale University, the buttons may have been the reason only 10000 soldiers out of half a million soldiers were the only survivors from the war.

White Dresses: Queen Victoria committed a fashion faux pas by wearing white on her wedding day. White dresses were initially associated with mourning? Yes mourning, you read right, it was Queen Victoria who decided to wear a white dress on her wedding day instead of other colors. white was used to symbolize the loss of children and the unmarried.
