With everything from embellishment to bright colours and head-turning gowns, the 57th Annual Grammy Awards took place yesterday at the Staples Centre in LA, with a red carpet to die for. We mean, did you see Nicki Minaj, Jessie J or Zendaya Coleman’s dress? If not, it’s well-worth scrolling down…
Some of our favourite musicians and fashionable stars were in attendance at the prestigious event, showing 2015 what their wardrobes are made of, and we won’t waste any more time before showing you the best dressed at the event – see all the looks that mattered here, below;
First off, living legend Angelique Kidjo stepped out in a head-to-toe ankara look made of a blouse, skirt and a head scarf, representing Africa all the way. Way to bring the continent with you to the Grammys, Ms Kidjo!
Missing some traditional print, one of our most treasured stars was on fleek at the event too – the eternally best-dressed Rihanna, who was a perfect princess in a pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown and Chopard jewellery. #Swoon…
Stepping out without her usual nakey swagger, Ms Fenty swept her hair into a bun to compliment the floor-length, Disney-worthy dress. As for how she chose it, the star revealed that she saw it on the runway, called up the designer’s office and just told them she had to have it. Well, we can’t say we’re surprised Rih got what she wanted – just look at her! We’d give her our best frock if she asked for it, too…
Katharine McPhee turned up to show off her slender physique, wearing an Emilio Pucci gown with cool cutouts. We love this dress, but we’re not sure about the choice of earrings or the hair… McPhee still looks hot though!
Someone who got it all right, rapstress, Iggy Azelea covered up in an Armani Prive gown that bore mesh panels and played peek-a-boo with her skin. The colour of the dress on her complexion looked amazing and we love the deep-V neckline…
…But it was her show stopping braided up ‘do that took our breath away, showing she’d clearly been reading our latest Trend to Try piece, here…
The ever-perfect Taylor Swift looked just stunning on the night too, showing off her long legs in an Elie Saab number in emerald green, and keeping her makeup fresh and flawless. We really like the pop of pink from her heels, too. Good choice Taylor, good choice.
This look though, from Zendaya Coleman, just slayed… From her pixie haircut to the gorgeous print of her Vivienne Westwood dress, the young singer completely nailed it. HEad to toe Ms Zendaya, you pretty much own the top spot on our best dressed list from the Grammys…
Sia, who regularly keeps her face hidden, kept her signature act of shying-away from the public going as she stepped out on the red carpet in a giant wig that hid most of her face. Her ‘do’s thick bangs covered her eyes and nose, and all we were left to work with was her bold red lipstick and her custom Giorgio Armani ensemble. Joined by the 12-year-old dancer Maddie Ziegler, who stars in her enormously popular music videos, the star went for a double act with her style, having Ms Ziegler dressed as her mini me for the night. Cute and hella quirky.
Queen Bey stepped out in an embellished, black custom Proenza Schouler number, while she let her hair down on the night. We at SPICE reckon she was a little overly relaxed in the wardrobe stakes though, as we were slightly disappointed by how simple the ensemble was… We still bow down though because this is Beyonce after all.
Singer Ashanti chose a black, strappy Michael Costello design with a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit for the night. The star did look fly but we weren’t completely sold on the shape of the gaping cutouts to the chest…
Someone who did get it right though, Ciara also sported an all-black look, with a one-shoulder, wispy gown by Alexandre Vauthier, showcasing her toned gams. Another best dressed nominee, new Mother Ciara just shone – especially with her minimal makeup and simple, ‘nothing but the dress’ styling.
Going for a structured look, fashion-with-a-twist-fave, Gwen Stefani looked elegant in Atelier Versace. We love the detail to the bodice and how the singer matched it with her hair.
Giving us a good reminder of her glamazon style, Nicki Minaj showed just enough skin in her deeply plunged Tom Ford dress and its fringed, floor-length skirt – and looked megawatts full of beautiful at last night’s event.
Stealing Nicki’s vibes in a similar look, Jessie J looked totally different but still hot as an overly glamorous version of herself, wearing a short-sleeved and embellished Ralph and Russo gown. Old Hollywood Glamour really suits Jessie J, doesn’t it!
Ms rebellious herself, Miley Cyrus kept her look decent (not a PVC, flesh-coloured garment or a butt cheek in sight) as she rocked a cut-out Alexandre Vauthier dress which looked both fresh and sexy. We especially like how the star kept her makeup clean and simple, allowing the dress to really shine.
One of our best-dressed of last week, actress Kat Graham looked beautiful in a stunning black and white and floral-embroidered gown from Yanina. There was just enough sheer mesh to make this dress sexy while the rest of the gown played for the eye’s attention.
Going in with a bright white dress, Jennifer Hudson kept things very simple, wearing a cool little number from Tom Ford, which featured a strapless fit and body-hugging silhouette. We love the styling of this look, with the mutli-strapped silver embellishment seen on both her shoes and her necklace – and together with Ms Hudson’s pixie crop, the whole outfit really came together for a clean, lean, ’90s-inspired vibe.
Meanwhile, Katy Perry opted for a mid-length look from Zuhair Murad, which came dazzling down the red carpet with all its beading and breaking the hearts of all who love embellishment… Chic!
…And going for a similar, show-stopping look, Lady Gaga dazzled in her Brendon Maxwell gown, which showed a lot of skin and shining beadwork, with a pair of heels to match. #Jadore!
Another contender for best-dressed of the night, Rita Ora looked amazing in her custom Prada gown, which came down to the floor and gathered at her ankles. We especially love the high neck and long sleeves on this sequinned piece and how well it suited her new, cropped hair.
Our favourite fashion couple, Kim and Kanye West stepped out meaning business, with Kim showing off her freshly chopped hair and a Jean Paul Gautier dress that looked like some sort of robe. Her husband, who was nominated in two categories, also impressed with his style, wearing head-to-toe black and just a simple gold chain. These two, as ever, looked flawless.
Contending for attention though, another stylish couple and some of KimYe’s BFFs, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend wore Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana, and looked the epitome of perfection. We love Chrissy’s dress especially, though it was a little reminiscent of the one Rita Ora wore to the Pre-Grammy Party over the weekend (see it, here).
As one of the most successful and stylish guys on the night, Brit singer Sam Smith looked dapper in a well-tailored suit, which he paired with a crisp white shirt and a white bow tie. This guy’s got an edge to him that clearly comes out when he gets dressed, which is a nice contrast between his smooth, soulful singing voice…
And last on our radar, Chris Brown came back into our good books with his DSquared2 suit, Dolce & Gabbana shirt, Pray bow tie and vintage Cartier shades. No matter how he behaves, he always looks fly and last night at the Grammys was no exception. #Swag!
