The 2014 Channel O Africa Music Video Awards took place on Saturday 29th of November, at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Soweto, South Africa – and what a night it was, in terms of style and red carpet-dressing…
The finest of African stars stepped out in their finest fashionable attires, with some hitting the mark and others falling short of it. Detailing the best of the Channel O Music Video Awards’ black carpet event, here’s our Style Special, showing you who wore what and how well;
EME Signee, Niyola just glowed in an April by Kunbi lace dress, giving us all sorts of sexy-elegant vibes. And those gorgeous gold shoes didn’t go a miss, either…
Also rocking a thigh-high split, Emma Nyra, who was the offical red carpet host for the event, looked just fabulous in a custom-made dress by her stylist and MUA, Chyna Bee.
DJ Cuppy looked printastic in her girly, skater dress – a simple silhouette that packed a punch via bright patterns. And we love the bright necklace and youthful high ponytail, too!
TV Host, Khanyi Mbau looked fierce and fabulous in her mobster-style ensemble. We really like the black and orange combination, and we also admire her bravery in rocking a clashing red lip.
Singe and actress, Denise Zimba turned heads as she showed off plenty of skin in a Harry Lekwane piece. We’re not sure we’d rock something so exposing outsie of the house, but with Ms Zimba’s body… we could be persuaded.
Surulere crooner, Dr Sid looked dapper wearing Taryor Gabriels. All-black-everything never fails to look good on a guy, does it?
And Dr Sid’s wife debuted her baby bump in a red Roksanda Illincic number. How yummy does she look!?
Going for a deep, plunging neckline and girly floral print, model and media personality, Boithumelo looked breathtaking. We love this silhouette and how the dress just skims her body.
Nigerian singers, Asa and Waje were also spotted backstage rocking prints and cool quirks. We like them alone but together? Major style selfie alert.
But did you see Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim? The star showed off her curves in an Ophelia Crossland gown that caught everyone’s attention with a combination of bold colour and a killer body.
Mavin star, Tiwa Savage, who grabbed the ‘Most Gifted Female (West)’ award on the night, kept things simple in her metallic Lanvin wrap-dress and Christian Louboutin sandals. This is a lady who doesn’t disappoint with her style and we can safely say she’s successfully continued that notion.
…Especially as she later changed into a Toju Foyeh number for her performance with Patoranking, satisfying anyone who wanted to see her fierce side. The pair of Tom Ford boots that completed her sexy look almost stole the show. #Wow!
Kenyan star, Vanessa Ambee showed off her skin in a moderate manner, keeping the look quirky and classy as well as racy, with a side-slashed number in all black.
Her fellow Kenyan and friend, Victoria Kimani also rocked a hatted look for the night, looking gorgeous as she paid homage to African pop queen, Brenda Fassie. We love this look and will be paying homage to Ms Kimani with our wardrobes at the nearest opportunity.
Yemi Alade showed off her legs as usual, wearing a white fringed dress and gold cuffed heels. The star’s warrior-like wardrobe did well to turn heads but it was the poses that truly nailed the black carpet.
Later, Ms Alade changed into something a little edgier for an energetic performance, but kept the fringed theme with her one-shouldered feather accessory and fringe-hem twinset. Nice!
Nigerian socialite, Lola OJ stood out in her Sanusi Lagos ensemble. We love the monochrome look and how its geo-print was complimented by her simple strappy shoes.
Limpopo master, KCee brought Nigeria to SA, looking like a president in hid trad-wear. #Represent!
Iyanya came out looking super suave though, in a bright coloured Taryor Gabriels suit with monochrome details. We do like a guy who knows how to do ‘slick’…
Nigerian media personality Eku Edewor looked pretty as a picture in a dress by South African designer, Taibo Bacar. We really love how her hair was style to match her ensemble – smooth and silky.
South African actress, Pam Andrews was also out to turn heads, eyes and necks, stepping out with a sheer dress with only lace details covering her privates. Not sure we’d rock this or the accompanying blue lipstick, but noone can say she looked boring or ‘average’.
Also scoring above average in the style stakes, Triple MG boss, Ubi Franklin looked the business in his Taryor Gabriels suit, doing pinstripes and a pocket square to perfection.
