#StyleSpecial: Kerry, Halle, Viola Davis & More at the 2014 Emmy Awards

The 2014 Emmy Awards has been a talking point since it happened on Monday 25th of August, but for us here at SPICE, it’s still all about the fashion: who wore what on its celeb-studded red carpet.

And, hot off the heels of MTV’s 2014 VMAs (see our Red Carpet Rundown, here), the style at the Emmys didn’t disappoint, with all the big names from the small screen stepping out in special ensembles, leaving us with a list of stars that truly stood out.

See below Team SPICE’s favourite Emmy Award outfits and then tell us if yours made our list, below;

julia-roberts

Julia Roberts was a ‘pretty woman’ in blue, rocking a deep navy dress by Elie Saab. The star is well known for her bright, mega watt smile and tousled hair, which was worn down and loose for the Emmys, to add casual vibes to her glamorous, bugle bead-covered dress. However, with the overall effect being utterly chic and super lady-like, she’s now known to us at SPICE for her brilliant way with her wardrobe.

halle-berry

Next up is a woman who needs no introduction, with her beauty well-recognised the world over. Ms Halle Berry, with her infamous short ‘do and toned physique, was a vision in dusky pink, rocking a chiffon Elie Saab number with thigh split and metal sash detail. Stunning, as expected, right?

kerry-washington

Kerry Washington’s look though was everything and by far stood out for us on Emmys night, with the star turning up to the event just glowing in her orange dress by Prada, with peek-a-boo thigh slit and delicate, diamanté-encrusted trim. We don’t know if it’s the hue, the diamantés or her subtle little smile, but the actress looked perfect, and her complexion? Let’s just say whatever’s responsible, we need it, in a double helping, please…

Beautiful couple, Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves turned up to turn heads and have the rest of the attendees (and the world) jealous of their wardrobe. With Matt looking fresh in a bespoke blue tux and his wife Camila wearing a beautiful cutout dress by Zuhair Murad, we really can’t decide who looked better, but we can surely all agree they were just made to stand side by side. The most handsome couple to hit a red carpet all week (sorry Jordin and Jason, but these two definitely ran it).

And here’s young actress, singer and all round star, Keke Palmer, who wore an electric blue number by Rubin Singer, showing off a beautiful hour glass figure. The actress told Us Weekly prior to the event;

“I feel like [my Emmy dress] epitomises who I am and my coming of age. It’s the first time I’m going to the Emmys as an adult, and my life is changing, so this is a moment for me where I feel like a princess. I knew the dress was the one because I felt like I could do anything – it was almost fairy tale-ish.”

We concur – Keke definitely looked dreamy in this dress.

teyonah-parris

Mad Men star, Teyonah Parris looked fly in a fun Christian Siriano gown that broke the seriousness of the night in style. We love the playful striped bodice and the colour pop of neon – especially against Ms Parris’ gorgeous, glowing skin – and we don’t know about you, but we think she looked amazing, no?

laverne

Laverne Cox attended the 2014 Emmys in a dazzling white gown and turned up the elegance factor with a caped, draped back detail and beautiful neckline. We also appreciate the sophisticated up ‘do and simple jewellery, and will therefore be looking out for Ms Cox’s next red carpet appearance with very high hopes indeed.

And Angela Bassett rocked a bright white look too, turning up in a gorgeous Grecian-style wrap dress which she accessorised with bouncing curls. We love this look on Ms Bassett and those gold accents (shoes, bag, belt, cuffs)? Just brilliant.

sarah-paulson

Sarah Paulson brought the excitement in her couture-looking Armani Prive dress, which we just wish we could see up close. Looking like a fashion’s version of a well-exectued Christmas tree, the star worked her volumnous dress in its simple red and black polka dot palette, keeping everything else on her body to a minimum. We dig it.

But, doing red the right way, was our girl Uzo Adaba, who’s been turning up the heat, red carpet look after red carpet look. The Orange is the New Black star worked an amazing, potently rouge, form-fitting dress that matched her frame perfectly, and Ms Adaba just radiated her way down the carpet and onto our list of top looks from the event. Her ensemble was everything.

56-year-old actress, Vanessa Williams worked an enviable look in green, donning a slimming silhouetted dress with a cute peplum. What else can we say but “wow?” We’ll have whatever wizardry is keeping Ms Williams looking so amazing, please.

E! News presenter, Alicia Quarles did deep navy hues and a neckline deeper still for the Emmy Awards, wearing a swish Dany Atrache Couture gown that fit her well. his dress certainly brought a bit of drama to the evening and we love this Autumnal shade on the star.

viola-davis

And the graceful Viola Davis looked stunning in her Escala gown, complimented with a glamorous tousled ‘do which carried the sophisticated theme of her look from toe to top. We love this silhouette on the star and are keen to know what else Ms Davis has been hiding in her arsenal of decadent dresses, this one being a favourite in a long while. This hue is definitely for you, Viola.

Et voila – that’s our pick of the best dressed at the 2014 Emmy Awards, but who were your faves? Tell us via the comments box or on Twitter via @SPICETVAFRICA.
