With high anticipation and a reputation as one of Nigeria’s biggest music and fashion events of the year, the 2014 Music Meets Runway event, dubbed “The African Edition,” took place last week on Tuesday 23rd of December, bringing stars out for the night in their very best ensembles – and we at SPICE were watching.
Held at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, some of the most stylish African stars were spied on MMR’s blue carpet, including the ever fashionable Toke Makinwa, Stephanie Coker and rising star Seyi Shay. See them here on our best-dressed list – our favourite looks from MMR 2014.
Firstly, Dakore Egbuson-Akande brought the glamour with a bold shade of blue. We love the silhouette and the hue against her skin? Just gorgeous.
Singer Munachi Abii stunned while giving us some true hair inspiration, rocking box braids with a gown by Moofa Designs.
The SohoSister, Toyin Jolapamo always makes us want to steal her unique style, and here she looked simply amazing while playing with volumes of prints and fabric.
Designer Ugonna Omeruo was as pretty as a sunflower in her yellow ensemble, which was stolen from her own HON brand and contrasted with these metallic blue heels. Such a cute, playful look…
And Toke Makinwa made an impact in a red peplum-ed number from Neviole – a look that’s perfect for the festive season as well as her beautiful shape.
Rokcing white from head-to-toe, Olakunbi Olayese brought one of the best looks of the night. While we love the head wrap though, we’re not sure it quite worked with the block of white from her highwasited pants, seen through her laced dress… But we still love the all-white look none the less.
The details on Fade Ogunro’s mini dress by Weizdhurm Franklin gave us chills… We absolutely love this piece and Ms Fade rocked it well.
Sticking to her style signatures of print and short dresses, accessorised by her staple high pony, DJ Cuppy kept her look safe but looked uber pretty as always.
Meanwhile, Seyi Shay brought retro vibes to the carpet at MMR, with her cool ’70s styling of her Ejiro Amos Tafiri dress.
And SPICE producer, Sharon Ojong looked fierce on the night, rocking a pretty shade of Christmas green in a Marvee dress. We love how this looked and we love the bob, but then, we are pretty biased…
Showing off her hot body too, was mother of two, Toyin Lawani, who stepped out in a baby blue Balmain dress with extravagant beadwork. We love how the ladylike-chic was extended to her curled hair ‘do and simple stud earrings.
MTV presenter Stephanie Coker rocked a busy piece by South African designer, Neviole, and we have to say, absolutely nailed it! The detailing and the styling was so on-point, this is for sure our favourite look of the night… Not that we’re surprised – Ms Coker’s wardrobe never disappoints.
And SPICE’s own presenter, Elma Godwin kept her look simple for MMR, going pretty and ladylike on the night, and rocking a ’50s dress from Nigerian designer, Sunny Rose who showcased at the event. #SuperCute!
Moving on to the gents though, media personality Ebuka Obi Uchendu dared to be different in a cropped jacket from Mai Atafo Inspired. 10/10 for this dapper yet cool look.
His BFF, Noble Igwe stuck to the theme of the event though, “The African Edition,” rocking a traditional Ibo look that turned heads – ours included!
But one of the performers of the night, Patoranking took it to Western Nigeria with his ensemble, clad in Adire shorts and a kaftan, paired with shades and a bandana. What can we say? The guy looked good…
