This past Sunday, August 31st, the Nigerian Entertainment Awards (more popularly known as the NEAs) were held at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in New York and, with performances and guest appearances from some of the hottest celebrities in Nigeria, the event was bound to bring out the finest, so you know we at SPICE just had to attend…
Giving you the full scoop on who was wearing what – from custom made gowns to well-known designers – here’s a look at the stylish ensembles of the night which brought celebration and laughter NYC.
Best world DJ nominee, DJ Cuppy looked stunning with her Stella Jean Zebra embroidered skirt, bringing new meaning to the word ‘limelight.’ Matched with Nicholas Kirkwood heels, a Marc Jacobs blouse and a Zara ring to seal the look, Ms Cuppy was definitely one of our style stars of the night.
Chetachi Ecton, CEO and founder of Chibase Production, embodied elegance in a bold floral print design, matched with minimalist accessories and clutch. When fashion-thinking meets elegance, this is what you get.
Stylist guest Tutu wore the monochrome look to near perfection in a black waterfall skirt, white blouse and bold gold accessories. Don’t you just love this combination? Top marks, Tutu.
Most Beautiful Girl Nigeria, Chinyere Adogu gave us embroidered chic in an Angela & Alison floor length gown. We love the detail and we love the silhouette too, just wish there could have been a slightly bolder palette here to really add oomph…
Bella Naija host Lara Adegbenro brought a bit of London to New York with her British boutique bought dress, and took some time out from her interviewing duties to strike a pose for us. Gorgeous or what?
Joining his stylish wife, Marketing & PR executive Alex Adegbengro represented the stylish males of the night in an all white ensemble. We totally dig this dude’s way with layering.
Tiwa Savage took to the stage to receive her Best Pop/R&B Act and Best Female Artist awards, wearing a Laquan Smith dress with killer heels by Sophia Webster. Another one of our favourite looks of the night, and not just because she was wearing some of our favourite designers.
NEA host and popular Nigerian presenter, Gbemi Olateri-Olagbegi dazzled in a custom-made gown with her long time collaborator, designer April by Kumbi. Glittering, gorgeous – and that green? So her colour.
Another of the NEA’s glamourous hosts, Funke Akindele brought geometric good looks to the red carpet in a BCBG MaxAzaria dress. This look could only have been more elegant with a slicked back hairstyle or an up’do, but we love it all the same.
Actress Juilet Ibrahim stunned in a leather Herve Leger dress with Steve Madden pumps and Chopard purse; an all black affair that made an impact on the night!
Best World DJ winner DJ Spinall turned up looking swift in a suit, high tops and traditional printed hat, and altogether showed off his way with style.
Never shy on the red carpet, Channel O presenter Denrele Edun came out in his usual fearless style, with platforms and leather and accessories that stood out all night long.

NEA host and comedian Bovi was spied with Alex Adegbengro in head to toe white, ticking off the trend just before Summer finished. Looks fresh, no?
Artist Duncan Daniels and guest also looked sleek on the night, all suited and booted, and ready for the night of fun.
And this stylish trio of guests turned the fashion levels up in Reiss, Michael Kors and Vince Camuto. These ladies know how to dress for a red carpet…
Founder and CEO of The African Entertainment Awards, Ibrahim Adekale stepped out in a custom-made printed jacket that complimented his guest’s dress perfectly. We love a man who knows how to dress, but it’s even better when he knows how to dress to match his date. #SuperSwish
Guest Constance Esotu stood out for us in her custom-made dress from her own label, accessoried with simple nude sandals. We need that dress in our lives please Constance…
And designer Omatu Fulani looked just fabulous in a design from her Fulani line, looking sleek, chic and fresh in her well-put-together ensemble.
