Uniting a Continent by Tsehai Publishers is a stylish new book celebrating the story and successes of African culture, and the history of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), aimed to exemplify “the rich and unique cultural heritage of each African nation.”
Designed to shed positive light over the continent, using captivating illustration and portraits of African leaders – including Algeria’s Bella, Ethiopia’s Haile Selassie, Upper Volta’s (Burkina Faso) Yameogo, Central Africa’s Dacko and Guinea’s Toure – the book marks the 50th anniversary of the AOU, highlighting some of its struggles and achievements so far.
Founder of Tsehai Publishers, Elias Wondimu, explains;
“African narratives are reinforced in popular and academic cultures, portraying Africa as ‘The Dark Continent,’ a place of wildlife and horror. These limited narratives cannot tell the whole story of this rich and diverse continent.
With our latest book, Uniting a Continent, Tsehai Publishers continues to dispel the dark myths cast over Africa. This book is the first of its kind, as it showcases the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and exemplifies the rich and unique cultural heritage of each African nation.”
In order to publish, market and distribute 1,000 copies of the book, the publishers aim to raise $30,000 via a crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo.com. And, with a deadline of 22nd June’14, we’d suggest anyone interested in reading this book get involved by pledging something, here.
