Following a brilliant red carpet affair at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCAs), plenty of publications have speculated on the best dressed stars (including the team here at SPICE), but ThisDay Style Magazine has went one further, revealing a “Nollywood’s Best Dressed” cover for their latest edition, which has followers divided – some disappointed.
While it’s not quite clear whether or not the cover and the contents includes outfits strictly from the AMVCAs, after finding stars Ik Ogbonna, Osas Ajibade, Genevieve Nnaji, Rita Dominic, Marcy Dolapo Oni, Beverly Naya, Alex Ekubo, Lilian Esoro Franklyn, Richard Mofe Damijo, Caroline Danjuma, Chris Attoh, Stephanie Linus, Dakore Egbuson, OC Ukejeand Omotola Jolade Ekeinde on the front page, fans were quick to ask for their favourite stars who showed up to the event looking priceless.

As well as pointing the finger at Chris Attoh, people are wondering how ThisDay came to conclude the names for its cover as “Nollywood’s Best Dressed” – Style Vitae even asking;
“When was the last time Caroline Danjuma acted in a movie?”
Others are questioning how – despite their usual furore when it comes to dressing – stars like Omatola and Genevieve Nnaji made the cover, when the AMVCAs wasn’t considered their strongest red carpet outing.
However, most of the backlash is in reaction to Mercy Aigbe Gentry being overlooked for the cover, with people asking Thisday why the actress and her shimmering Luminee gown didn’t make the list. Some are even speculating the decision was made to exclude a Yoruban actress from the lineup – one follower on Instagram asking ThisDay Style;
“…Why is Gentry not among? Oh because she is a Yoruba actress? …What is Omotola doing there in the first place? Did she attend the event? I waste my mb on Gentry’s Instagram page and I have never regretted. I guess you were shocked the gorgeous look came from a local Yoruba actress.
I’m an Igbo guy but I hate segregation. Wake up and do what is right – Mercy Aigbe rocked it.”
So far there’s been no official response from ThisDay Style, whose bio on Instagram boldly says;
“…Not in ThisDay Style, then you are not in style!”
But what remains is the fact that while the cover shows outfits from the red carpet at the AMVCAs, the title doesn’t imply the list was compiled strictly from looks at the event – meaning followers may be best to wait until they see inside the edition and assess exactly what the mag is presenting as its ‘best dressed’.
Meanwhile, what are your thoughts? Who deserves to be on the list of Nollywood’s Best Dressed – from the AMVCAs or from the industry in general?
