To get it straight, we are so not talking about the Kylie Jenner Challenge – rather, we’re talking about Spring/Summer’s more beautiful trend for lips, spied at Erdem, Michael Kors, Vera Wang, Herve Leger and Thakoon’s showcase, amongst others: the Just-Bitten Lip, which you need to put on your pout.
This season, designers and artists chose to stray away from bold colours, with hardly a full red or hot pink lip in sight. Instead, the catwalks were all about approachable beauty (which you can get started with, here) and a favourite shortcut for pretty, flirtatious lips was achieved using stains and tints, giving a sheer lip colour – referred to as the ‘Just-Bitten Lip.’
But while we at SPICE love the Just-Bitten look, some of our favourite stars have been busy championing it too;

Get the Look (Oscar de le Renta’s Just Bitten Pouts)
To achieve fashion’s new favourite lip look, the technique is pretty simple. For the runways, makeup artists simply put on a heavy lip and then took it all off again, leaving the desired stained effect.
But for Oscar de la Renta, makeup maestro Gucci Westman used an oil, which removed a little of the colour first applied and left a soft, kissable sheen. Here’s how you can do it too;
1. First, prep lips with a scrub – gently removing dry skin for a smooth surface.
2. Next, moisturise lips with a nourishing balm or treatment. At Oscar de le Renta, the models’ pouts were treated to Hourglass No. 28’s Lip Treatment Oil, which was left to sink in for a few minutes first.
3. Choose your colour (reds and berry shades work best) and cover the lips. Gucci Westman used Hourglass’ Opaque Rouge Lipstick in “Empress” – a deep aubergine shade – and used her fingers to diffuse the colour. Copy her by applying a saturated dot in the centre of both lips, then using your fingers to work the shade outwards.
4. Finally, top lips with a nourishing treatment oil (Westman went back to the one she’d first applied) or an oil-based balm, like Vasoline, which will leave a subtle sheen.
And there you go – that’s all it takes to create your own Just-Bitten Lip look! Show us how you got on with the trend by tagging us @SPICETVAFRICA on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
