Tuesday 10: Perfect Purple Lipsticks

Jumping well into the trend and giving into our inner goth, our Tuesday 10 this week is about the best purple lipsticks on the market – but be warned: while the season’s new ‘It’ lip might not seem like it’s for everyone, we’ve found the shades that are.

Read on and be left tempted to try them…

1. Maybelline’s Colour Sensational Vivids in “Brazen Berry,” $5.50

Very afforadable, this fruity shade is really nice on lips. It stays on for a long period of time and is utterly vibrant and we especially love the fact that is has a nice ‘wet’ finish to it.

2. Illamasqua’s Generation Q lipstick in “Underworld,” $16.50

This is a lovely, no-nonsense duo-chrome shimmer lipstick and, coming from the ‘alter ego’ brand, nothing less can be expected. It is definitely long lasting and just perfect for a long night out, but be careful as it does tend to be a bit drying on the lips…

3. Dior Rouge Dior Lip Colour in #786 “Mysterious Mauve,” $41.95

This is a very sheer lipstick but the coverage can be built up. The sheen finish it has is gorgeous and the products’s a beauty to apply as it goes on really soft and smooth.

4. MAC’s “Dominate” Lipstick (limited edition), $49.99

Even though this was a limited edition lipstick as part of the “Mac Nudes” and “Metallics Pro” lip collections, it still appears on top 10 lipstick lists everywhere and made ours for the fact its frosty colour shows up so beautifully on lips. Find one if you can.

5. MACs “Heroine” Lipstick, $19.93

This is surely the most popular MAC lip pie, ever, and we all remember what happened worldwide when MAC announced this would become part of the permanent line – excitement hit an all time high! The beautiful purple matte lipstick can be worn by a variety of complexions which is probably the reason for its universal appeal.

6. Lancome’s “Rouge In Love Violette Coquette,” $28.50

Most reviews say that this lippie is definitely ‘falling in love’-worthy, and from its oh so gorgeous packaging – with the Lancome rose embossed on the product – to the faintly pinkish purple colour of the lipstick, it is certainly a beauty to behold; one pigmented enough to cause us to fall in love with it, too.

7. NARS’ Pure Matte Lipstick in “La Paz,” $18.50

This is a real pretty mix of red and purple and easy-peezy to apply even though it is matte. Need I add that is stays on all day?

8. MAC’s Sheen Supreme Lipstick in “Quite The Thing,” £15.50

A cross between sheer and matte, this lipstick is super vibrant and is such a delight to behold it’s no wonder people find themselves purchasing it again and again – and thankfully, loving it, too.

9.Apocalypse” by Urban Decay, $22

‘A plum shade with a bit of sparkle,’ reads one description by a blogger. But it’s also perfect for touch-ups during a night out appropriate for most complexions and a product that boasts buildable coverage. Do be careful during application though as a steady hand is needed for an even finish.

10. Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick “Vivid Violet,” $17.99

Providing a lovely satin finish that’s great for long lasting wear, this lipstick is a must-try. Even though it is less deep in shade  than some of the purple lipsticks on our list, it still leaves a daring look with its opaque finish.
