Tuesday 10: Top Moisturisers for Tropical Weather

The skin is the most important organ of our body as protects every other organ we have – thus, it is imperative that we do all we possibly can to look after it. Besides, when people look at us, they see our skin so it does pay to make sure it looks good, supple and radiant.

In tropical weather, extra care is needed, which is where our reliable friends cocoa and shea butter come in – a tried and trusted skin and hair care product that has everyone’s seal of approval.

Helping to keep you hydrated no matter the weather, we’ve compiled a list of the best shea and cocoa butter creams, so take a look and see if your favourite is featured. If not, you may want to consider giving one of these fabulous finds a go;

1. Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Lotion£3.99

We don’t know what it is about cocoa butter that we love so much, but since this product contains it, we love it too. Made with Vitamin E, which protects the skin from being dry and appearing dull, this is a definite must-try.

2. Jergen’s Shea Butter Deep Conditioning Moisturiser, $7.49

This product does what it says on the tin – moisturise and condition skin deeply. A firm favourite among many of us, we truly appreciate having a tube of this on hand.

3. Shea Body Butter by The Body Shop, $20

So let’s agree that we can’t run away from shea butter. Here at SPICE, we love this product from The Body Shop – it is beautiful to apply without the weight that some products of its texture and density have, and we really recommend you try it.

4. Aveeno’s Daily Moisturizing Lotion$10.99

This is just a basic moisturiser which thankfully has no fragrance, so we can play in the sand and not attract any pesky insects. It does have long lasting moisture though and is a bit of a wonder product for those that have extra dry skin.

5. Vaseline’s Cocoa Radiant, $3.82

Vaseline is a tested and trusted brand among Africans and try as we might to fight our love for it, we still end up keeping a little tiny jar in our wardrobes somewhere, for that feeling of extra moisture every now and then. With this product, the brand puts cocoa butter into the mix as well as Vaseline’s Stratys-3 Innovation (a patented technology suspending moisture across multiple layers of skin) and for that, we are sold on it.

6. Nivea’s Naturally Even LotionR24.99

This product supposedly reduces irregular pigmentation and boasts double UV filters, which means it is great for high sun weather as it offers protection from the sun while also ensuring that we have moisturised skin. Double-tasking, eh? We like.

7. Dove’s Pro-Age Body Cream Oil£2.49

Dove’s cream/oil product includes AHA and sunscreen, plus a super rich creamy texture that will have you a slave to it for life. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

8. Dermatological E-45£5.50

This product is “clinically proven to heal really dry skin” as well as having a non-greasy formula, which is a magic seller for this product. Get yours and treat your skin – both clinically and to something smooth and soft.

9. Pears’ Baby LotionN220

Here at team SPICE, we’ve some die-hard advocates of this product’s light weight, oil free moisturising action, which literally soothes the skin as you apply. Add the fact that it is multi-purpose (with potential to be used as a moisturising makeup remover) and this product pretty much sells itself.

10. AMBI‘s Soft and Even Creamy Oil, $11.88

Johnson & Johnson is internationally known for their great skincare, thus, this product has great backing. Rave reviews of this product claim it’s great for providing instant relief for dry skin and has us rushing out to the store to sample it.
