Last week we introduced you to the stunning project by Medina Dugger, titled Chroma: An Ode to J.D. Okhai Ojeikere, where the talented photographer celebrated Nigerian hairstyles and the work of J.D. Okhai.
Now in an ongoing project with François Beaurain, Medina is turning those stunning photos into equally stunning GIFs showcasing colour, hair design, patterns and movement.

Titled Chromatin, Medina and François describe the project as an ‘animated GIF project’, stating;
“Chromatin is the animated variation of Medina Dugger’s Chroma photo project
In biology, chromatin designates the macromolecule in which DNA is packed and it is known to adopt complex and repetitive geometry. This macromolecule was named this way for its ability to fix dyes.
Chromatin explores and gives a new perspective of the relationship between design and colours in contemporary braiding methods underlying the importance of geometric and fractal patterns in African culture.
