This month, Vogue.co.uk has set its sights on one of the most celebrated African authors, Nigeria’s Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, by featuring the brilliant novelist in their Today I’m Wearing feature online.
The author, who is known for her brilliant books Purple Hibiscus, Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah (which is soon to be shot with Lupita Nyong’o and David Oyelowo in the starring roles) has been under fashion’s spotlight before (read about Ms Adichie’s Igbo style, here), and with many amazing red carpet appearances under her belt, we already know we’re in for a great month with a new look from the talent set to be posted every day this March.
Today’s style diary entry – the first of this month’s many – sees Chimamanda dressed in her signature feminine style, which carries major influence from her Nigerian roots; the writer seen snapped in a beige and white wiggle dress and a pair of printed heels, as well as a bold, bespoke neckpiece that we at SPICE want urgently;
Ms Adichie told Vogue;
“Hello from Nigeria Vogue.co.uk! Today I am wearing an old, much-loved Carolina Herrera dress and shoes by Emanuel Ungaro. I designed the neckpiece from individually cut and twisted strips of ankara fabric bought at Lagos’ Balogun market.”
There are 29 more days left in March and we can only hope we can begin every one of them with a peak into the day-to-day style of Nigeria’s national treasure.
